You’ve reserved the church and booked a superb reception hall. You’ve hired the best caterer in town. You’ve found the perfect wedding rings and a dress that’ll make your female guests turn green with envy. Now, you want to choose and hire your photographer.
Obviously, there are different ways to plan a wedding, with budgets according to your needs and situation. In planning your wedding day, you’ve decided to invest in all of the above. Shouldn’t your photos be wonderful mementos of your special day, and of everything you’ve chosen and organized? After all, would you hire an amateur to cater your reception or to make your wedding rings?

But where do you start this quest? There are so many options in today’s market. Many couples make their decision based on friends’ recommendations. This is an excellent idea if you have friends that were recently married and were happy with the results.

But what if you don’t have recommendations to go by? The search for a wedding photographer can get a bit complicated. An excellent way to ensure you hire a professional, and that you get both professional results and great service is to contact a professional association such as the PPOC  (Professional photographers of Canada).  They provide a listing of accredited photographers in various cities and town in Canada. You simply go to their homepage and use their search engine.

Hiring an accredited professional photographer means you also get a guarantee of quality results and service. Being accredited means the photographer is specialized in specific categories. To obtain an accreditation, a portfolio of photos is submitted to a review committee made up of Master Photographers. As well, members of this association have to adhere to a strict code of ethics and stay up-to-date by taking courses and the many seminars offered by the association. After all, they have to stay informed and up-to-date. This is how they earn a living; it’s more than just a lucrative pastime… They can also offer you a service guarantee thanks to the many qualified members who are part of their association. (Let’s say your amateur photographer gets sick and can’t shoot your wedding… Can he or she offer you replacement service of equal quality?)

Shouldn’t you be left with great photos of your big day? Get a professional to do this task and you’ll have them.

Quel beau mariage! Une journée complète avec un jeune couple absolument photogénique, et gentils comme tout en plus. Cérémonie au domaine Billings, photos au musée des Civilisations et réception/soirée au Vittoria Trattoria, super! Difficile de travailler avec cette lumière drue de printemps mais il y a toujours moyen de moyenner comme on dit et on s’est bien amusés (surtout moi :-)

What a wonderful wedding! A full day with a beautiful young couple and two of the nicest people to boot. The ceremony was at the Billings Estate, the photos at the Museum of Civilizations and the reception/evening at the Vittoria Trattoria, excellent! The light at this time of year is tough to work with but we managed and we had a great time all day!

I think it’s very important for a photographer to get to know the bride and groom-to-be before their big day.  A good way to accomplish that is to offer the couple a pre-wedding photo session.

I went to Parliament Hill with Lianne and Marc. The session took about 1.5 hours. I got to see how they react in front of a camera while they got to see how the person they’ll probably be with the most on their wedding day–namely, their photographer, works.

At the start of the session, the couple will typically be a bit nervous and self-conscious. This is especially true for the guys. I can totally relate: it’s hard to know what to expect and what will be asked of us.

I’ve always said portrait photography is a collaboration, and the more the couple participates, the better the results. Lianne and Marc illustrate this well. I’m very much looking forward to shooting their wedding this Saturday. It’ll be a great!! (Did I ever mention that I love my work and just love shooting weddings. ;-) )

The wedding season is in full swing for me and things are going really well. Even the weather has been on our side for our last weddings: so far, so good. Let’s hope the trend continues! We’ll be at Mont-Tremblant the following weekend and then in St-Donat the week after that. I’m getting more and more requests to shoot out-of-town weddings and I really enjoy these opportunities. It’s a great way to discover new spots and get to shoot using different backgrounds. (And it’s really fun to drive around in our SmartCar!)

Que l’on préfère les albums traditionnels ou les nouveaux styles comme le “Coffee Table Book”, l’album photo de mariage fait partie de l’expérience et finalise bien ce grand événement. Je vais bientôt offrir les albums “Epoca”, un mélange de look traditionnel et contemporain. Je continuerai aussi d’offrir les coffee table books évidemment.

J’aime beaucoup faire le montage d’un album. C’est vraiment la continuité de la créativité développée lors du grand jour. Le plaisir de remettre l’album terminé aux nouveau mariés est un moment toujours très émouvant.

Où faire nos photos de mariage à Ottawa/Gatineau lorsqu’il pleut?

On me pose souvent cette question. Je ne connais pas tous les endroits mais j’ai mes préférences. Mon premier choix est sous le pont près du canal et le Centre national des arts. Soleil ou pluie, la lumière y est toujours excellente. Si on aime le look urbain, cet endroit est parfait. Murs de ciment craquelés, arches et un incroyable puit de lumière. Le seul hic, on y est rarement seul, on doit partager avec les marcheurs, cyclistes, planchistes et sans-abris qui s’y abritent en tout temps.

Mon deuxième choix serait le Musée des civilisations. Pas idéal malgré la splendeur de la grande galerie, mais s’il cesse de pleuvoir, on peut sortir et on est entouré d’une superbe architecture, d’un beau grand jardin et évidemment, la rivière et le parlement juste en face.

Mon troisième et dernier choix, le Musée de la monnaie sur Wellington (coin Kent). C’est toujours très occupé et le décor est constitué de plantes vertes mais encore une fois, s’il arrête de pleuvoir (oui, je sais, je suis optimiste), on peut aller sur la terrasse ou sur la rue Sparks qui est juste à côté — un endroit idéal pour y faire de la photographie urbaine.

Il y a aussi la galerie nationale mais on doit réserver et ça coûte un bras à ce qu’on m’a dit. Si vous êtes client du Château Laurier vous pouvez photographier dans leur luxueux décor, même chose pour le Hilton du Casino et la plupart des hôtels de la région.

Si ces endroits ne vous conviennent pas, vous pouvez toujours rester à l’église s’il n’y a pas de cérémonie après la vôtre, avec la permission du célébrant bien évidemment. On peut aussi travailler à la salle de réception mais ce n’est vraiment pas idéal puisqu’on est entouré de tous les invités. Ça peut être gênant pour les mariés et difficile pour le photographe.

Pour les mariés, ne vous en faites pas, un bon photographe saura se débrouiller à n’importe quel endroit. Pour le photographe, équipez-vous d’un système de flash flexible que vous pourrez utiliser n’importe où et dans n’importe quelle situation.

Mais le plus important, c’est de ne pas oublier que c’est une journée de mariage. Soyons heureux malgré la pluie et comme dit le dicton, ‘Mariage pluvieux, mariage heureux!’

Bienvenue! Ceci est  mon premier post sur WordPress!

Bonne façon de célébrer mon 10,000 ième visiteur qui viendra dans les prochains jours. Le blog Mac restera actif pour un bout, le temps de bien faire le changement. Je dois ré-apprendre un logiciel et cela demande une certaine période d’adaptation. Je continuerai d’essayer d’écrire tous les jours et surtout, de publier des photos tous les jours. Vous remarquerez que les fonctions et certains textes sont en anglais. Je ferai la traduction dans les semaines à venir.

J’ai bien aimé mon mariage d’hier, c’était très différent. Différente culture, différent horaire, on a commencé à 8h le matin et terminé à 23h le soir avec une pause de deux heures au milieu. La majorité des événements se sont passés au centre Centurion sur Colonnade sauf pour les photos de couple au musée des civilisations.  C’était vraiment spécial, “ride” de limo avec les mariés et ceux-ci tellement gentils nous ont même offert de prendre le champagne avec eux…pas pu résister :-)

Aujourd’hui, c’est le repos total. Le Bluesfest continue de nous envoyer ses ondes de guitare basse mais je ne les entend même plus.
